Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Silt, including the free app and the optional $3/month hosting subscription.
Last updated June 15, 2026
1. Acceptance
By using Silt (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
2. The Service
Silt is a local-first writing and reading app. The core app is free and runs on your device. We also offer an optional paid hosting plan that backs up and synchronizes your library across devices using end-to-end encryption.
3. Accounts
You only need an account to use hosting. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials and your encryption passphrase secure. Because hosting is end-to-end encrypted, we cannot recover your content if you lose your passphrase.
4. Subscriptions & billing
- The hosting plan costs $3.00 USD per month and renews automatically until cancelled.
- Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor.
- You can cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are handled under our Refund Policy.
- We may change pricing with reasonable notice; changes won’t affect the period you’ve already paid for.
5. Your content
You own everything you create in Silt. We claim no rights over your content. For hosted accounts, you grant us only the limited permission to store and transmit your encrypted data so we can provide the backup and sync features you asked for.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- break the law or infringe others’ rights;
- store or distribute content you don’t have the right to;
- attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorized access to the Service.
7. No-recovery encryption
End-to-end encryption is a deliberate trade-off: it means we cannot read your data, and it also means we cannot help you recover it if you forget your passphrase. You accept this risk when you enable a passphrase.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep it reliable, but we don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Keep your own copies of anything important.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Silt will not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss of data. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for hosting in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if these Terms are violated. On termination, you can export your data, after which stored backups may be deleted.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product changes; the “last updated” date above reflects the latest version. Continued use means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Argentina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
